The Airport Race Kladow – another weekend full of racing

Last weekend Hagen, Rolle, Rapha, Jojo and Jule spend the time on the military airport in Kladow, in the southwest of Berlin. The RC Charlottenburg organized a weekend full of racing on a very nice course, this year for the first time also with a fixed gear crit.

The women raced on Saturday only. The men’s race was an omnium race with a 20 km race on Saturday and 30 km on Sunday. Hagen had very good legs on both days and finished 9th in the allover ranking. It’s great to see him that strong and that his training finally starts to pay off. Rolf as well did again a good job with an allover 13th place. For Jule the fixed crit was quite a success, too: it was her second race back in the game and she felt way more comfortable and stronger than during the last race. Unfortunately she lost the group after doing some work in the front, but fought together with Janine till the end of the race and made it to the 6th place. Racing seems to make her quite happy!

On Sunday the boys also participated the MOL Cycling Cup road race. Jojo made his way to Kladow, too, after racing the Rapha Nocturne Fixed Crit in London with finishing 6th the night before. The day was hot and the race a very fast and technical one over 42 km. Both, Hagen and Rolf tried to stay together, positioned themselves very solid in the main field and finished 33rd and 34th. Jojo, also with the race of the evening before as well as a flight in his legs, as usual without much sleep and on a bike he borrowed from a friend, showed once more that he’s the coolest and came in 6th.

We took Robbi’s old VW bus to get there with all the bikes and had our own little camping area to hang out during the time between the races. The weather was just perfect and all of us enjoyed the time together with the team and other friends from the fixed family. A beautiful surprise was the short visit of teamie Robbi, who dropped by to say hello and wish good luck.

It was a great weekend and we would like to say thank you to the very friendly and open organizers who made it possible to now also have a fixed gear race during the Aiport Race Kladow, also with separate start of the women’s field, own ceremony and but same prices as for the men. We recommend to anyone who didn’t make it last weekend to join this event next year!
